Hope???

Life has been harder ... much harder, in the past and yet hope has survived and thrived even though many of the old problems are still with us. Take a glimpse at how the world was seen by Lola Ridge, an Irish immigrant who saw both the tragedies and the promise of early 20th Century America; and perhaps reflect on what we have gained by the struggles, sacrifices and optimism of those who came before us.

 America!

And after...
(Do you remember?)
The drollery of the wind on our faces,
And horizons reeling,
And the terror of the plain
Heaving like a gaunt pelvis to the sun...
Under us--threshing and twanging
Torn-up roots of the Song...
